BEARS - Last Saturday was VDL Stud's annual stallion show in Bears. Besides showing the very best stallions and their offspring, VDL Stud also wanted to do something to help others.
Therefore, we took the initiative to organise a collection for Jouke Kalma and Team Friesland for Alpe d'HuZes, in aid of cancer research.

Alpe d'HuZes is an event in which cyclists take on climbs of the Alpe d'Huez in the French Alps to raise money for cancer research. By supporting this event, VDL Stud wanted to contribute to the fight against cancer.

During the stallion show, attendees were encouraged to donate through the collection boxes that were handed out. Many people contributed and we can report that the collection raised a fantastic €2,350. Janko van de Lageweg has since personally brought the proceeds of the collection to Jouke Kalma.

Fellow villagers Jouke Kalma (59) and son Wybe (16), with whom the Van de Lageweg family has had a good relationship for many years, participate in Alpe d'HuZes on their bikes because they believe that together we can work towards a world in which cancer no longer kills you.

Jouke speaks from experience: ten years ago, he was struck by cancer and told the terrible prognosis that he would probably have a few months to live. Now, in 2023, he is back on the tractor on his dairy farm and wishes everyone such a good outcome and cure as he himself has been privileged to experience.

The fact that VDL Stud chose to collect for Alpe d'HuZes during the stallion show shows that we not only strive for success with our business, but also take our social responsibility seriously. The contribution from visitors to VDL Stud's stallion show is a step in the right direction to support cancer research and promote the Alpe d'HuZes event. It shows that every contribution, big or small, has the potential to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
