The VDL stallions and their offspring once again made their mark on the international stage last weekend. The star of the show was Quizano VDL, who, ridden by German rider Laura Klaphake, jumped to an excellent second place in the 1.55m Championat at Hohenkirchen.
The ten-year-old VDL Quizano Van ’t Merelsnest, bred by Walter Van Bunder and Stoeterij Merelsnest, remained clear of faults in both the basic course and the jump-off. With a jump-off time of 43.62 seconds, the pair were pipped to the post by just one combination. The performance earned them a fine second place and €11,360 in prize money. The BWP stallion is a son of Diamant de Semilly out of a dam by Kannan and once again confirmed his qualities at international 1.55m level.
A VDL victory was also recorded in the 1.50m class with jump-off. The Holsteiner Bert 74, a son of Brantzau, raced to victory under German rider Tomma Thiesen. With a clear jump-off in 38.64 seconds, the pair stayed well ahead of the competition and claimed €7,500 in prize money. Bert 74 is bred by Jens Ritters.
In addition, a fine placing was achieved in Pärnu, Estonia, by a young VDL offspring. In the CSIYH1*, Aperol Fritz, an eight-year-old son of Arezzo, finished in fifth place. Ridden by Tjade Carstensen, the son, bred by Guido Sperveslage, remained clear and clocked a time of 39.44 seconds in the jump-off.
With a podium finish at 1.55m level, an international victory at 1.50m and further success for young horses in the sport, the VDL stallions once again enjoyed an excellent international show jumping weekend.
