Nearco VDL van ‘t Merelsnest brings the necessary scope for the modern breeding of showjumpers. This impressive son of Diamant de Semilly comes from one of the best damlines of Belgium: the line of Van ‘t Merelsnest. The breeding of the Van Bunder family already produced many successes for VDL Stud; VDL Glasgow van ‘t Merelsnest is of course the most striking example of this.
Nearco’s sire Diamant de Semilly has been one of the foundation sires of French breeding for many years and produced a long list of international showjumpers. His sons are doing excellent in breeding as well; Emerald, Elvis ter Putte, Pacino, Vannan, Don VHP Z, Andiamo Semilly and Quickly de Kreisker are great examples. Nearco’s grandsire Kannan is a big name in breeding and has, time and again, new offspring who break through at the very highest level. More than 150 offspring jumped at 1.60m level and still Kannan brings up-and-coming talents. The same applies to great-grandsire Mr. Blue who, with his sons Zirocco Blue VDL and Plot Blue, still has a lot of influence on today’s showjumping breeding.
The family of Nearco been one of the best in Belgium for generations. Nearco’s dam Naila van ‘t Merelsnest already jumps at 1.45m level with Viktor Daem and ultimately goes back to the Cardinal xx-daughter Chiquita. This mare is the founder of the famous line of the Van Bunder family and her daughter Idjaz-C produced the most striking results. This Hedjaz mare produced no less than seven Grand Prix showjumpers, including Sapphire ridden by McLain Ward, two-time Olympic champion with the US team. Through her daughter Wendelina van ‘t Merelsnest, Idjaz-C is the granddam of VDL Glasgow van ‘t Merelsnest, who ridden by Jur Vrieling was solid member of the Dutch team and in breeding became a leading sire.
