VALKENSWAARD – A successful weekend for the VDL stallions and their offspring at the international show in Valkenswaard. Rebel van ’t Zomerhof (by Harley), Comthago’s Jewel (by Comthago), Mainly San Peppy (by Brantzau) and Ofaline v/h Hanneweehof (by Cardento) all claimed victory in their respective classes. Grand Slam, Incanto and the VDL-bred Napardi VDL also achieved impressive placings.
Rebel van ’t Zomerhof wins 1.45m & Grand Slam 5th
Rebel van ’t Zomerhof (by Harley) jumped to victory under top Belgian rider Gregory Wathelet in a 1.45m class at the CSI2*. The pair rode clear and clocked the winning time of 59.88 seconds. The Harley son was bred by Marc Braems.
Grand Slam (by Cardento) also featured prominently in this class. Riden by Jur Vrieling, he also remained clear and finished fifth in 60.20 seconds. Grand Slam was bred by Frans Kenis.
Comthago’s Jewel (by Comthago) wins the seven-year-olds’ final
Among the young horses, there was a fine victory for Comthago’s Jewel (by Comthago). Riden by Kevin Jochems, he won the 1.35m final for seven-year-olds. The pair remained double clear and clocked the fastest time in the jump-off with 35.17 seconds. The Comthago daughter was bred by Michael Potter.
On and On MB (by Baltic VDL), bred by M. Bierings, finished twelfth in this final with Rob Heijligers.
Two victories for Mainly San Peppy
It was a particularly successful weekend for Mainly San Peppy (by Brantzau) and Yoni van Santvoort. On Saturday, the pair won a 1.35m class, followed by another victory the next day: this time in the CSI1 Grand Prix over 1.35m*. Mainly San Peppy was bred by Stal Thijssen in Sevenum.
In this Grand Prix, Nenfiddich Roso W (by Glenfiddich), ridden by Jan Cigan Jr., finished eighth. The Glenfiddich son was bred by H.J. Wagter.
Second places for Incanto VDL and Napardi VDL
Incanto VDL (by Kannan) also continued his good form. Following his recent Grand Prix victory at the Azelhof, he finished second in Valkenswaard with Yuri Mansur in a 1.45m class of the CSI2*. The pair completed a clear round in 57.52 seconds. Incanto VDL was bred by the Lohuis brothers.
Napardi VDL (by Inaico), bred by VDL Stud, also secured second place. Riden by Annelies Vorsselmans, he remained double clear in a 1.35m class and finished in 36.63 seconds.
Cardento daughter wins at CSI5*
There was also VDL success at five-star level. Ofaline v/h Hanneweehof (by Cardento) won a 1.40m class at the CSI5* GCT/GCL with the Czech rider Anna Kellnerová. The pair rode clear and clocked the winning time of 30.61 seconds. The Cardento daughter was bred by Hanewee-hof.
